Ian Phillips was born in 1969 in Leicester, UK. An early fascination with all things Japanese introduced Ian to the beauty and craftsmanship of Japanese prints. The romantic image of an artist embarking on a long, difficult, exotic journey and drawing places he/she sees along the way is an idea that still consumes Ian today. Although he likes to go off on long journeys, he also likes to be back in his mid Wales studio, turning the sketches into prints. Ian is one of Wales's foremost linocut artists. He has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad over the last 10 years. In 2010, Ian was made a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy. As well as producing prints, Ian runs small workshops from his studio. For more information on these please click here. In 2012, Ian has been invited to visit Cairns, Australia for a 6 week residency. This will involve an exchange of ideas between Ian and the linocut artists affiliated with the Kick Arts Contemporary Arts Centre. This will no doubt produce a new series of prints in 2013. If you would like to alerted when new work becomes available or when exhibitions are on, please join the mailing list here. Many thanks.
